PSA KRAOM
SIEM REAP
Psa Kraom is one of Siem Reap’s local markets, a place where few “baran”, or foreigners, go.
Pungent smells of spice and food blend as I walk from stand to stand, filling my nostrils and head. Fruit, vegetable, cosmetics, fish and meat stands lay close to one another.
Despite a blackout affecting the whole town, sunlight cuts through creating a sort of natural stage. Candles and torches draw you inside. Women’s faces are incredible portraits with dark and deep eyes that contrast with the surrounding colors.
As I reach for the camera, a smile suddenly appears and I lose that very moment. Smiling is in their nature and culture.
